Brrrrrr what happened to that beautiful sunshine I was talking about a few days ago??
I’m excited to welcome a couple of new folks to the Burg …. Shawn Burns and Megan Fightmaster ! These folks work at Mustard Seed Hill planning and organizing events. They both are a pleasure to work with and I want to welcome them to Millersburg. Shawn and Megan and their respective families, are both currently living in Lexington and tell me the commute to Millersburg is a great way to start their day. Shawn is originally from Cincinnati – we won’t hold that against him ! He and his wife Patricia have a one and half year old son named Simon. Megan is from Paris. She is the daughter of Forest and Nancy Fightmaster and the wife of Steven Fightmaster. I’m sure you will see them out and about and be sure to welcome then to the Burg!
On that note it was hard to say good bye to Victoria Benson who had been at MSH since it opened. Victoria planned many beautiful events at the campus, including the fantastic open house this fall. She had an opportunity to expand her horizons and I want to wish her the best in all she does…. she was fabulous to work with in promoting Millersburg.
This fall has been busy in Millersburg ! With three wedding venue sites, brides and grooms from all over Central KY have exchanged their vows in Millersburg! Maplewood, ( oldVimont and Ruth Layson home) owned and operated by Keith and Karin Buchanan, has provided a wonderful rustic/chic venue site. They have converted the barn into an exciting and beautiful site for a wedding and/or reception. One late afternoon last month I saw a horse and buggy at the Dollar Store with a gorgeous bride and two precious flower girls heading to Maplewood. The Summerhouse Venue, ( old Dr and Mrs. Sadie Plummer home ) owned and operated by Gary and Lisa Haubner, has hosted several smaller weddings this summer. The summerhouse Doc Plummer built for a men’s retreat, is the perfect setting for a wedding and/or reception. Lisa built a pergola in the back yard and it provides a stunning backdrop for any event. Mustard Seed Hill has hosted several weddings this summer and fall and it is always fun to watch the bridal parties as they gather in the lawn and at the Allen House for pictures. Love is all around in Millersburg!
The Summerhouse Venue has recently opened an Air B and B! Lisa tells me she has already hosted two different visitors ! Spread the word that there is lodging in Millersburg !! Check out the information provided on Facebook and on the web!
Recently I have been going thru old pictures again and scanning them to a chip thanks to a friend that lent me his really easy scanner. I will be posting old pictures to the City page and getting some restored. Today I shared a post from another page of the Millersburg Opera House. Located on the block between 4th and 5th, the building was owned by the Oddfellows and the upstairs floor was the Opera House. The last I knew the stage was still intact ! I’ve tried to research this for better history but have come up short. Does anyone have any information that was possibly passed on from generations past ? If so, please share!
The holiday season is upon us ! It’s a wonderful time for families to gather and share special time. It’s also a wonderful time for communities to gather and share. The Millersburg Presbyterian Church will host the community Thanksgiving services at 6 pm on Sunday November 18th. The Millersburg Christian Church will host the community Christmas service at 7 pm on Sunday December 9th. Everyone is invited and welcome!
Holiday decorations are beginning to go up in Millersburg. The front lawn of the Civic Center will have three 6.3 foot lighted reindeer on display thanks to Community Ventures !! These majestic decorations will certainly be a highlight and compliment to the Christmas décor in the Burg! Thank you Community Ventures and Kevin Smith for your generous and much appreciated gift to the City! They will be amazing!!
Cars are lining the streets and the lights are on in the gymnasium at Mustard Seed Hill and there are ballgames happening! The sports program there is incredible! They host a volleyball and basketball team that play on Tuesdays and Friday nights having games at 6pm 7 pm amd 8 pm ! Bundle up and stop by and enjoy a great youth sports night – they have awesome refreshments too! Their next game is Friday November 16 and then the next home game will be December 11th .
Speaking of basketball — anyone remember Tom Boerwinkle? He played for MMI in the 60’s and went on to be a pivotal player for the Chicago Bulls. Tom was from Ohio and played for University of Tennessee before going pro. I’m trying to find more information about his days at MMI if anyone has anything to share !
A shout out to our beautiful daughter Sara Hurst as she celebrates her 45th birthday today …and to twins Sammy and Shannon Gillespie as they celebrate their 46th !! .. we are wishing you all many , many more special days!! Xoxoxo
